An access control system is a system which enables an administrator to control access
to areas and resources in a given physical facility such as a computer room, private
office, car park etc.
An access control system generally use electronic key or card computerised management
systems .
Access control is, in reality, an everyday phenomenon. A lock on a car door is essentially
a form of access control. A PIN on an ATM system at a bank is another means of access
control. Bouncers standing in front of a night club is perhaps a more primitive mode
of access control. The possession of access control is of prime importance when persons
seek to secure important, confidential, or sensitive information and equipment.
Another advantage to access control is that security access levels can be set allowing
some people greater or lesser access to areas than others.
Access control systems are generally different to door entry/intercom systems as
they utilise sophisticated computer technology in the decision and logging process
for ingress and egress of a property, premises or just a room.
